Custom instructions
Custom instructions are a short prompt that gets appended to every chat the assistant has with you. Use them for tone, format preferences, persistent context, or anything else you’d otherwise have to repeat.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Moonjar app installed and signed in.
- Open Moonjar.
- Tap More → Settings.
- Open Profile (or Custom instructions — [TODO: VERIFY exact label]).
- Type your instructions.
- Save.
Your instructions take effect on the next message you send. There’s no need to start a new chat.
Examples
Section titled “Examples”- “Reply in Australian English. Avoid em-dashes.”
- “I’m a software engineer. When I ask about code, prefer Python and TypeScript examples. Skip the disclaimers.”
- “My partner’s name is Sam. When I mention ‘Sam’, that’s who I mean.”
- “I’m a vegetarian. When you suggest restaurants or recipes, skip meat.”
What gets sent where
Section titled “What gets sent where”Whatever you write here is appended to the system prompt at the end of every chat turn — both text chat (Anthropic) and voice mode (OpenAI realtime). It’s the closest thing to a persistent personality override.
For one-off framing — “explain this like I’m 5” — just say it in the message. Custom instructions are for things you’d repeat every chat.
Limits
Section titled “Limits”- One block of instructions per account, applied to every chat.
- The assistant treats it as guidance, not a hard rule. If the instructions conflict with something it has to do (call a tool, follow a safety rule), the rule wins.
- In a shared chat, each participant’s own custom instructions apply to their turns in the chat. When you send a message, your instructions shape the assistant’s reply. When another member sends one, theirs do. Your instructions aren’t visible to other participants — only their effect on the assistant’s reply is.
